Caleb has done well this last 5 days. We finished up chemo today and he has to have fluids overnight. This is the regimen that has the drug that will burn his bladder if it sits on it, so they keep the fluids pumped through him to move it on out quickly. We will get to go home tomorrow. He has not been very sick again this time, and we are thankful for that.
Holly was here from Friday until this morning all by herself. She is such a strong, loving mother. I was glad to hear we had some family come by and visit for a bit and bring her a meal. The Barnetts and Pastor Steve also came by to visit, as did Uncle Wayne and Aunt Becky, who brought a huge NASCAR Illustrated book of the history of NASCAR they got for him in Daytona as well as $20 each so Caleb and Joshua could buy a hat when they go to Talladega next month.
Holly was exhausted so she went home and went to sleep. Our next stay in two weeks I am going to stay here with him so she does not have to do that all by herself again. This is her spring break vacation and she works too hard to not be able to have a few days of rest. I cannot say enough how thankful I am for her and all she does, and for those that came to relieve her for a bit or just to check on us. That means the world to us. We know how busy peoples’ lives are.
We have a week off next week except for one day to go to clinic to check counts. We will find out then exactly when we go back into the hospital for the next five day regimen.
I got word this week from a very good friend that we are getting four tickets to go to the NASCAR race at Talladega!! Caleb is SO stoked and I am going to talk to his doctor about seeing if we can be sure to schedule treatments to be sure he’ll have energy to go that weekend if they can. Camping on the infield where he would not have to walk as much is expensive and – from what I’ve heard – not exactly a family-friendly atmosphere! I did find a campground just up the road and they offer a shuttle to the track. We are working out the details, but we cannot wait for the first weekend of May to go to the fastest track in NASCAR!
We are so very blessed. God has supplied for us every step of the way. We have not missed a bill or lacked any necessities during this whole ordeal. It is by God’s grace and the generosity of His people – whether it is a renewal commission check in the mail out of nowhere from an old insurance policy I wrote years ago, a friend slipping money in my pocket telling us to buy the boys some clothes, a small donation through WePay, a check or envelope with money just to help with expenses and bills, an opportunity to do something fun (like go to a race!) to get our minds off of things, or a handful of gas cards to help with the trips back and forth. God has known every need and has supplied every need. He is not only our Healer, but He is Jehovah-Jireh – our provider! He can be trusted in EVERY area in our lives if we’ll just give ourselves away so He can use us.
Today’s scripture – “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” -Philippians 4:19
